Macquarie Memo Issue 1 - 2024
News from the Principal
Welcome back, Macquarie community! It has been a wonderful start to the year, students are back settled and ready for learning.
This year we have a new Strategic Improvement Plan for 2024-2028, our priorities for this school improvement plan cycle are:
Priority 1: Strengthen academic achievement in numeracy for all students.
Priority 2: Strengthen academic achievement in writing for all students.
Student learning will be shared with you through the student portfolios on Class Dojo as well as shared through posts and photos on Class Dojo throughout the year. A reminder to check Class Dojo regularly as this is often where we post reminders.
Yesterday we had our annual P&C welcome BBQ and AGM, thank you to everyone who attended, it was a true indication of the fabulous community we have at Macquarie. Thank you to everyone who helped with organising the BBQ and cooking.
Next week, week 3, parents we will be having Getting to Know You Interviews. These meetings are a great opportunity to get to know your child’s teacher as well as discuss your child’s interests and goals with their teachers. Interview bookings are now open on parent portal, if you have difficulty with booking an interview time, please contact our office. Coffee and Coding will be commencing Week 3 Thursday.
Mirri has had a wonderful holiday and is back ready for 2024. Mirri will be at school every Monday, Wednesday and Friday supporting our students. Mirri is now in classrooms and has her very own schedule for each day she is at school.
On Friday 1 March we will have our swimming carnival, notes for this have already gone home. If you are able to help on the day, please contact Sean via email. sean.gourlay@ed.act.edu.au
It is with mixed feelings that we wish Lidiya a very special farewell and a very happy retirement. Lidiya has been an LSA at Macquarie for the past 19 years and has been an integral part of the Macquarie community. She will be missed but we can't wait to hear about her retirement adventures.
As you know our Business Manager Karrina has moved into a new position. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Grace Brassington to Macquarie as our acting Business Manager. Grace comes to us from Harrison School with a wealth of experience.
School Board nominations are sought for one parent representative commencing in April 2024.
The School Board is tasked with providing strategic leadership. More information about the functions of a School Board can be found here. Terms for Board membership are generally two years, and the Board normally meets four times per year. Nominations are now open and will close on Monday 19 February 2024 with voting (if needed) to follow.
If you are interested in nominating yourself as the parent representative on our School Board, please email grace.brassington@ed.act.edu.au
Have a great week

Volunteers needed
Would you like to get involved at school in a meaningful way? Volunteer as your child's class parent representative. You'll be the social coordinator for the group and get to know the families in your class, as well as keeping up to date with school and P&C happenings. Email classparentrepsmps@gmail.com to volunteer.
We also need volunteers to help run our Friday morning breakfast club. You don’t need to take part every week – just once or twice a term would be fantastic. Please email bc.mpspandc@gmail.com to find out more.
P&C uniform shop
The P&C Uniform Shop is located in the Tidbinbilla Building. It is run by volunteers and sells new uniforms as close to cost price as possible, and second-hand items for $2 and $5. Open times are:
Mondays 8:45 - 9:15am, Wednesdays 3:00 - 3:30pm, and Fridays 8:45 - 9:15am.
Cash and card payments are accepted. Orders can also be placed online via the flexischools app - see www.flexischools.com.au. No need to collect online orders - they will be sent home with students. Any questions can be sent to uniforms.mps@gmail.com.
Donations of pre-loved uniform items are gratefully accepted during open times, or may be left at the front office.
