Macquarie Memo Issue 2 - 2024
News from the Deputy Principal
Dear families,
I would like to thank everyone for my warm welcome and the smiles and greetings that I get as I move around the school. I feel tremendously blessed to be a part of the Macquarie Primary School community.
Last Tuesday, Kristy and I attended the first Leadership Forum for 2024. These are always a great opportunity for us to connect with our wider leadership network within the ACT. During this session were introduced two documents:
- Inclusive Education: A Disability Inclusion Strategy for ACT Public Schools 2024-2034
- Inclusive Education: A Disability Inclusion Strategy for ACT Public Schools (First Action Plan 2024-2026)
The vision that underpins these documents is: Every child and young person is welcomed, valued, has a sense of belonging and can access quality education designed to meet their needs at their local school.
This vision is not new to the Macquarie Primary School community. We value and celebrate all forms of diversity and ensure that everyone has a strong sense of belonging. Macquarie PS is a place where all are welcome and feel safe. There are supports in place to meet diverse needs for students.
We all know that:
- Inclusion is more than structures such as classes.
- Inclusion is more than a label of disability.
- Disability is difference.
- Difference is good.
- Inclusion also includes cultural or linguistic diversity.
Inclusion is the way in which the members of our community act to make sure that everyone feels like they are a part of our community.
Have a great week.
Regards,
Karen
