News from the Principal
Thank you to Sean, Laura, and Lauren G for their organisation of the swimming carnival last week, it was a wonderful day! A big thank you to all our parent helpers who volunteered to help on the day and contributed to its’ success.
Last Thursday we held ‘Clean up Australia Day’. Our playground was sparkling afterwards and we are all enjoying our tidy school grounds. Thank you to Lynda for organising the event.
Today our 3-6 students had Mr Ramgoolam from the Mauritian High Commission come to speak to them about the country of Mauritius during Francophonie Week. Thank you to Laurence for organising this visit, the children seemed to enjoy learning about Mauritius.
Last week we had our NAPLAN information session. Thank you to parents who attended and to Jenelle and Lauren P for presenting. The NAPLAN testing period opens next Wednesday and will close Friday 22 March.
Well done to our Year 5/6 students for hosting our first assembly of the year last Wednesday. Your artworks were exceptional. Our next Assembly will be held on Wednesday of week 9 and will be hosted by 3/4 cohort.
I am excited to announce that we have a new relieving Business Manager - Christopher Johnson. Chris will be starting with us on Monday the 18 of March, I know you will join me in welcoming Chris to Macquarie.

NAPLAN 2024
NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy) is coming up for children in years 3 and 5.
- From Wednesday 13 March to Monday 25 March students will complete four NAPLAN assessments.

Some students may feel anxious about doing NAPLAN; it is different to everyday school and normal testing situations. If you feel your child would benefit from some additional practice please access example papers for years 3 and 5 through the following links

At Macquarie Primary School, we encourage all our students to participate in NAPLAN, however if you wish to withdraw your child, please speak with your child’s classroom teacher.

Classroom volunteers
Thank you to all the wonderful parents who have taken on the role of class parent rep for 2024. We have only one class that still needs a parent representative! If you have a child in 3/4JM please email classparentrepsmps@gmail.com to volunteer.
P&C Meeting Schedule for 2024
The P&C holds a meeting each term where we plan school social activities, fund raising events, grant opportunities, and allocation of funding to support school initiatives. We would love to see more parents and carers come along to offer new ideas or support – all welcome! Please put these dates in your diary:
- Term 2 - 14 May
- Term 3 - 6 August
- Term 4 - 29 October
P&C uniform shop
The P&C Uniform Shop is located in the Tidbinbilla Building. It is run by volunteers and sells new uniforms as close to cost price as possible, and second-hand items for $2 and $5. Open times are:
Mondays 8:45 - 9:15am, Wednesdays 3:00 - 3:30pm, and Fridays 8:45 - 9:15am.
Cash and card payments are accepted. Orders can also be placed online via the flexischools app - see www.flexischools.com.au. No need to collect online orders - they will be sent home with students. Any questions can be sent to uniforms.mps@gmail.com.
Donations of pre-loved uniform items are gratefully accepted during open times, or may be left at the front office.
