Macquarie Memo Issue 14- 2024
News from our Principal
The warmer weather is upon us, and we are excited that this brings many community and special student events. We have a disco coming up after the holidays, colour run, and to kick it off market day this Friday.
We are very excited that our PBL mascots are up for display, however, they need names. There is a QR code located in our front foyer, we would love your opinion for our PBL mascot names. Please take a moment to vote when you can.
A massive thank you to everyone who attended our learning journey, it was so wonderful to see students sharing their learning and playing games with family. A big thank to teachers for the time and effort that went into making learning journeys wonderful.
Last week some of our 3-6 students participated in the Limelight massed choir, it was a joy to watch their performances and all students who attended represented our school exceptionally well.
This week we are very excited to welcome our new permanent Business Manager, Bri Brockman to Macquarie. Bri comes to us from Florey Primary with many years of business manager experience. I know you will all make her feel very welcome as you meet her.
Our P&C have been extremely busy recently with cookbook organisation, colouring run, disco, year 6 events and readathon. I would just like to thank them all for their hard work, and ongoing dedication to fundraising and special events for our community.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Kristy

P & C News
Thank you!
Thank you to the amazing volunteers who helped us run the Father's Day stall in week 6. We raised vital funds for the P&C to continue supporting our school, but most importantly, the students had the chance to choose a special gift for their special adults. We hope all the Dads and other grown-ups enjoyed their carefully chosen presents.
Readathon – please return book lists
The MPS readathon finished on 6 September, and we are excited to see what our young readers got up to. Can children please return their book lists to the P&C box in the front office by Friday 13 September.
All sponsorship money will be used to buy books for the school. Prizes include a book voucher for the person from each year who has read the most books (from pre-school through to year 6, and LDU), a prize for one person selected at random from the people who have submitted their readathon form, as well as a special prize for the person who has read the most books in the entire school.
Calling businesses to sponsor our cookbook
Are you a local business owner, or do you know one?
We are seeking sponsorship for our MPS Cookbook and are keen to have businesses with a connection to our school. Sponsors will get an ad in the sponsorship chapter of the cookbook and help make our cookbook a success.
We are also hoping that a local photographer will help with photos for the front cover.

For 20 plus years, Menslink have provided free counselling to young guys throughout Canberra and the surrounding region.
If your young guy is having a hard time and could really use someone to talk to, get in touch with Menslink. Now conveniently located in Holder (with some sessions also available at Kippax & Lanyon), our wait times are currently low so we’re ready to help when he needs it.
We provide a welcoming and supportive environment for young guys to share their concerns and worries with a male counsellor who will hear them out, work alongside them and provide tips and strategies to get them through those tough times.
Our Counselling sessions are completely confidential and are available to any male aged 10-25. There are no fees or charges or limits to the number of sessions. You don’t need a mental health plan and we are available during school terms and school holidays. The only prerequisite is that he is willing to give it a try.
If you think your young guy will benefit from chatting to one of our counsellors, have a chat with them and head to www.menslink.org.au, hit the ‘Get Help’ button, fill in the form and we’ll get back to you, generally the same or next business day.
If you need more info on how to have that chat with them, just email admin@menslink.org.au or call 6287 2226 and we will send you some information.
